FETISH: RAW DENIM, NET, JERSEY, TIE DYE, FUR AND LEATHER.
WHY THEY WANT THIS: Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida created the quintessential fashion collage on Tuesday in an alternative show space in West Kensington. A hum of effervescent fashion enthusiasts filled the west Olympia show space as the lights dimmed and a pink hue guided the guests to and around the maze like runway.
The design duo claim they never want their stuff to be too loud or rebellious, they want their girl to have “an effortlessness and a quiet defiance”. Have they stuck to this motif? If so, this show definitely didn’t prove it.
WHAT IT DOES TO THEM: Contrasting prints and mixed textures, not what you would usually expect from the dynamic duo renowned for their shaggy full denim looks.
Autumn/Winter 2016 for Marques Almeida meant oversized orange puffer jackets, turquoise leather jackets with orange fur lining and full length netted slips. Stemming from a patchwork trend this season, the two designers felt the need to bring together different textures and fabrics to reflect their place in the market. Are you feeling what they’re feeling? I am, in every sense of the word.
WHAT’S THE CLIMAX? Giving a whole new meaning to ‘ready-to-wear’ this season saw the introduction of the ‘realistic girl’ to the Marques Almeida family. Inspired by Larry Clark’s film ‘Kids’ the pair worked to dress their friends, clients and normal girls making it on their own.
“We wanted this collection to feel like normal clothes, like it tumbled out of and belongs to someone’s closet rather than in a store or on the rack”.
I don’t know what your closet looks like, but apparently my ‘normal girl’ look needs a bit of a makeover. The M’A closet tickles my soft spot significantly more than my own.
