HELEN LAWRENCE
FETISH: WOOL, VELVET AND YARN.
WHY THEY WANT THIS: If anything’s going to keep you hot and sweaty this season, make sure its one of Helen Lawrence’s pieces from her Autumn Winter 2016 collection. Chunky knits and uneven surfaces; despite a less elaborate set, Lawrence’s knitwear didn’t fail to impress in their showroom at Chelsea College of Arts on Saturday evening. Complete with elaborate rock formations and accompanying film footage, Lawrence only used four live models and a modest rack of ready-to-wear garments to feed your fetish and present her Autumn/Winter 2016 collection.
WHAT IT DOES TO THEM: If you’re into your assets, this isn’t the designer for you. However whilst they’re not the most flattering garments of clothing, they’re nonetheless technically intricate with complex detail, leaving you itching to get your hands on and around them, your surfaces enveloped in their thick, vast realm. The work is rare and it takes a certain type of someone to pull off a midi wool dress or a pair of beige knitted trousers, but with the right look and body shape, these looks might just work.
If wool doesn’t tickle your soft spot, there still may be something for you. The collection featured velvet pantaloons in white and brown. Soft to the touch and ever so light in weight, you’ll be dying to include them in that ensemble you’re obsessing over.
WHAT’S THE CLIMAX? : It’s no secret that the clothes were the center of attention at Lawrence’s presentation. The set gave very little in terms of accompanying aesthetic and performance. The models wore 70s punk wigs and country and western boots, but the look was complete without and they had little interaction between each other. If you ask me, in any case, the clothing is the only climax I need…
