Show

Brewer Street Carpark

Tuesday 23rd February

Ashley Williams

FETISH: LEATHER, LADY SUITS, OVERSIZED JEWELLERY AND NEON.

WHY THEY WANT THIS: She’s the boss, apparently…

I’m not turned on. But that’s just me. Give her a suit and she’s suddenly the boss? I don’t think so. It was an eighties power suit the designer was inspired by, but the only power seemed to come in the form of Adwoah Aboah, Claire Barrow and Georgia May Jagger and to be honest, they are power in anything.

Neon pink and green shift dresses, slogan t-shirts under crisscrossed suspenders, its still not hitting the spot. Apparently the Ashley William’s Autumn/Winter 2016 show at Brewer Street car park on Tuesday was every working girls fantasy, but I beg to differ.

WHAT IT DOES TO THEM: Not much. We’ve been told that the Ashley Williams girl will “guarantee profanity, gore, nudity and sexual situations”, but who cares about the girl! Its what’s on top that counts, the textures, the colours and from what I’m seeing, there’s nothing on top doing anything special.

WHAT’S THE CLIMAX? The Taser print? Sure. I’ll give Williams credit for her tongue in cheek feminist humour but a ‘power suit’ with a Taser print isn’t going to save this collection. “The Ashley Williams girl has an edge”, an edge of what I don’t quite know.

I think what we learnt from this collection, and what my year four teacher would say, is that Ashley Williams needs to ‘KISS’, (Keep It Simple, Stupid). A brown suit, a pinstripe blazer and a grey knee length dress took the stage on Tuesday afternoon. As for the fake oversized jewelry, keep to the clothes Ashley.
